Mission Statement of the Department of Hospital Epidemiology and Infection Control

    To support the Johns Hopkins’ health system mission of research, teaching, and patient care; to promote patient safety by reducing the risk of acquiring and transmitting infections; and to become a leader in health care epidemiology and infection control.

     Department Functions at The Johns Hopkins Hospital:

Surveillance, Prevention, and Control of Healthcare Associated Infections & Resistant Organisms

  • Investigate and control hospital outbreaks and infection clusters among patients and personnel
  • Develop and maintain infection control policies and procedures for all hospital departments
  • Manage antimicrobial use
  • Develop novel stratigies to survey for healthcare associated infections
